Web designer – Project-based

JOB DESCRIPTION

Main purposes of job

As the web designer, you'll plan, create and code web pages, using both technical and non-technical skills to produce websites that fit the clients’ requirements.  

You'll be involved in the technical and graphical aspects of web design and will work with the design team to determine the look of websites as well as how they work.

KEY TASKS

Designing functional websites with a huge consideration of the aesthetics

  • Liaising with the design team to establish the look of websites in line with clients’ branding and the requirements of the client

  • To translate designs created by the senior designer onto websites

  • Register/transfer domain names and organise the hosting of the websites

  • Present initial design ideas to the directors and clients

  • CSS coding

  • Consider search engine optimisation (SEO)

  • Meet relevant legal requirements such as accessibility standards, freedom of information and privacy

  • Proofread content and make changes where necessary

  • Edit content, debug code and re-design web pages

  • Work with other web specialists, including web developers and graphic designers

  • Liaise with outside agencies

  • Test the website to ensure it's working

  • Hand the completed website over to the client

  • Train the clients' and their staff

  • Research current design trends

Skills required

Essential

  • Squarespace and Shopify experience

  • CSS coding

  • A flexible approach and willingness to adapt ideas to the needs of clients

  • The ability to work to strict deadlines without compromising on work quality

  • Great organisational skills

  • An eye for detail

  • Strong research skills

  • The ability to meet deadlines

  • The ability to see projects through from inception to production

 

Desirable

·      WordPress experience

·      Knowledge of HTML and Javascript

·      Photoshop and Illutrator

Company directors and clients

This is a project-based role, to begin with, with a longer-term view to a secure, permanent position as the business expands. We offer the use of our office space on the outskirts of Manchester, our operational systems and processes and the opportunity to market yourself under our successful brand.

Initially, you will need to provide your own digital equipment.
